We are very pleased that John Watts can share his wealth of knowlegde with us looking at what we can learn through philately.
John Watts presented this talk to the New Zealand Society of Great Britain late last year and is travelling to Christchurch to present it to members and visitors of the Christchurch Philatelic Society. John started to collect stamps of the world in about 1945 and then following a visit to New Zealand in the 1950’s he started to specialize in New Zealand. John moved out to New Zealand permanently in 1976 and joined the Christchurch Philatelic Society in 1978.
He is a past-Chairman of the New Zealand Society of Great Britain, Present & Secretary of the New Zealand Postal History Society, member of the Royal Philatelic Society of New Zealand and serves on the expert committee. He is a founder member of the New Zealand Judges Society. John has exhibited and won awards for Traditional, Postal Stationery, Cinderella’s, Telegrams and N.Z. Health Camps (social).
As a philatelic author he has published Muir & Moodie Stamp Card, N.Z. Pictorial & Special Date Stamps 1882-2002 (co-authored with Tom Lee) and N.Z. The Chalon Issues 1855-1873. He has authored three chapters of the Postage Stamps of N.Z. Vol VIII and further chapters for Vol X to be published later this year. He is at present involved in writing The New Telegram Service 1862-1988.
