Stephen Prest will be giving a power point presentation on the topic of short-paid (nothing to do with dwarves) during the George VI period. The presentation will describe Steve’s and his colleague Pat Skinner's search for the elusive half=penny postage due stamps used exclusively or in combination on cover to pay a fractional half penny deficiency – always, as attendees will discover, a bit of an incongruency, in the world of ‘Double Deficiency’. Steve advises that there will be a test at the end of the presentation to see how well attendees would ‘due’ as postmasters or postmistresses of the day!
Dr. Stephen F. Prest graduated from Bishop’s University in Canada in 1965 (BSc Chemistry) and then Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in the US in 1969 (PhD). Steve retired in 2003 following a 30 year career working in senior operating & management posts in mining projects in Canada, US, Sth Africa, Madagascar, Australia, India and elsewhere.
Steve has had a long interest in stamp collecting narrowing his interests to focus on the KGVI commonwealth issues. Teaming up with Pat Skinner they have authored a number of articles and identified a number of new varieties.
