History of the CPS

Back in the heady days of 1911, some far sighted young gentlemen in Christchurch established the Christchurch (NZ) Philatelic Society, Inc., CPS.

The Christchurch Philatelic Society as we know it today emerged in August 1911 from a group of about a dozen young fellows who had been meeting since February 1910 as the Christchurch section of the Chums Society of Stamp Collectors which had its HQ in London 1910. From August 1911 until August 1912 our society was named the Christchurch Junior Philatelic Society which had its first meeting on Tuesday 15 August 1911 and it is this date that we reckon as the founding day of the present society.
